Get ready for this year's Pantomime: Sleeping Beauty
It might seem a long way off now, but the Eastbourne theatres pantomime team are gearing up to celebrate their 20th pantomime production with Sleeping Beauty at the Devonshire Park Theatre from 11 December – 17 January.
The previous 19 pantomimes have taken audiences from the sands of Arabia in Aladdin, to the blue mermaid lagoon with Peter Pan, and in this family favourite patrons will be whisked to the fairy-tale kingdom to meet Princess Belle and of course the less favourable Carabosse, who when spurned an invite to the Royal Christening unleashes a terrifying (although not too terrifying as this is pantomime after all) curse.
The Princess is cursed to die on her 16th birthday by a prick on the finger from a spinning wheel, but Fairy Fortywinks can lessen the hex to 100 years of sleep, and true-loves kiss could wake the lethargic Princess Belle.
The pantomime is always a season highlight and early birds can get the best tickets, here’s a chance to get ahead of the dreaded Christmas to do list and book tickets early – and be sure to have something to look forward to!
Eastbourne favourites Martyn Knight and Tucker will be returning to their roles of Chester the Jester and Dame Nellie Night Nurse. Martyn celebrates his 17th year as resident Dame, with plenty of new frocks and old jokes to showcase! Tucker is back for his 8th time opposite Martyn, audiences can expect shenanigans a-plenty from this favourite duo.
Sleeping Beauty the truly traditional pantomime is at the Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne from 11 December – 17 January.
